April 12 - A Stirring Spring

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and LaGrange Symphony Chorus will conclude the symphony’s 2010-2011 concert series with “A Stirring Spring” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, in Callaway Auditorium with music from Brahms, Sibelius and Borodin.


Johannes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture, which the composer described as a “rollicking potpourri” of student songs, will open the program. Jean Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor will follow, featuring Suliman Tekalli on violin. Following intermission, the LaGrange Symphony Chorus will join the LSO in a performance of Alexander Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor. The concert will conclude with a stirring rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, featuring both orchestra and chorus.

March 15 - Winds Plus Five

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra continues its 2010-2011 concert series with “Winds Plus Five” at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, in Callaway Auditorium featuring music from Bach, Dvorák, and Johannes Brahms.

Using intimate chamber ensembles, the LSO presents Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 6, Dvorák’s Serenade in D minor, and Brahms’ Serenade No. 2 in A Major. Discussing the uniqueness of the coming concert, LSO Music Director and Conductor Patricio Cobos said, “Musicians love the opportunity to play chamber music. Most great composers were active chamber music players. They poured their best efforts and talents into the creation of their greatest masterpieces!”

December 7 - Magnificent Joy

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Patricio Cobos, continues its 2010-2011 concert series with “Magnificent Joy” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, in Callaway Auditorium. Sponsored by Commercial Bank & Trust (CB&T) this concert will include music from Bach and Corelli and will feature the inaugural performance of the LaGrange Symphony Chorus, conducted by Debbie Ogle.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 will open the program, followed by Arcangelo Corelli’s Christmas Concerto. The highlight of the evening promises to be Bach’s Magnificat, choral music written for the Christmas season of 1723. The LaGrange Symphony Chorus will be joined on this performance by four soloists with ties to the region: Courtenay Budd, Dr. Toni Anderson, Adam Kirkpatrick and Wade Thomas.

November 2 - "A Bright Future" 

The LaGrange Symphony Orchestra continues its 2010-2011 concert series with “A Bright Future” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 2 in Callaway Auditorium with music from Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

This concert features two outstanding young artists: Bogdan Dumitriu, bassoon, who will perform Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, and Hannah Linz, violin, who will play the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. The evening will begin with the exciting Egmont Overture by Beethoven.

Winner of the 2010 LSO Young Artists Competition, Dumitriu is a student at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music and performs as principal bassoon with the LSO.

Currently studying with Ik-Hwan Bae at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Hannah Linz has been playing the violin since the age of 3. In 2008 she received first prize at the ASTA Michigan Junior String Competition.

Dr. Toni Anderson, Professor of Vocal Studies at LaGrange College, will provide a brief preview of the evening’s music beginning at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
